One Heart Project Awarded Grant from Texas Bar Foundation

Nueces County, TX – One Heart Project is proud to announce that One Heart Project | Texas | Southern Region has been awarded a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation. The purpose of the grant is to begin work in partnership with the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center to initiate programming for female offenders in deferment, thereby meeting a community need to provide values reinforcement programming to females and reducing recidivism in Nueces County.

One Heart Project has a 20-year history of service to inner city and urban areas around the United States and began work in Nueces County in 2020. The organization’s mission is to equip justice-involved and at-risk youth with the skills, tools, and healthy relationships needed to navigate life successfully. Holistic programming focuses on social & emotional intelligence education, mentoring, gap skill training, job training, and employment opportunities.

“One Heart Project is honored to have been awarded these monies to offer a community involved holistic solution for our young females in Nueces, County. We are delighted to be working with Chief Homer Flores and the Nueces County Juvenile Probation Department to address recidivism in their female juvenile probation on deferred prosecution. – stated Sonya Martinez, Director of Operations for the organization.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $22 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.
